Ridgewood Residents Invited To Participate In Oral History Project
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- In an effort to help preserve the village’s history for future generations, the Ridgewood Public Library has launched an oral history project. The library is recording people’s stories, making them available at the library’s website and maintaining them in its local archive. The project is funded from a grant through the Bergen County Historical and Cultural Affairs Department. Preliminary Report Shows Teaneck Schools' Water Has Elevated Levels Of Lead
TEANECK, N.J. -- Nearly three months after initiating a study of the lead levels in water sources throughout its venues, Teaneck Public Schools has received a preliminary report indicating elevated levels of lead in some areas of all of its schools and at the Eugene Field Administration Building. The testing initiative began early in March, in response to reports that lead had been found in drinking water throughout the state. State Chooses Five Dutchess High Schools Among 'Reward' Designees
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The New York State Education Department has designated John Jay, New Paltz, Red Hook, Rhinebeck and Spackenkill high schools among its 2016-17 "Reward Schools" selections. Woman Charged In Theft From BJ's In Yorktown
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have arrested a 77-year-old resident of Peekskill on a larceny charge following an incident at BJ’s Wholesale Club. Police received a call from the store at 3303 Crompond Road, reporting a shoplifter in custody on Thursday, May 26, at 2:48 p.m., according to officials. Police responded, and Ena Giler was arrested for allegedly trying to leave the store without attempting to pay for assorted groceries and household items valued at $157.91, police report. ULSTER, N.Y. -- Ulster police have arrested a 58-year-old Kingston man on a menacing charge, authorities said. Patrols responded to a local motel for an incident involving a knife at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday, police report. An investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Daniel W. YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have charged a 29-year-old resident of Peekskill with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The arrest came about after an officer responded to the corner of Lexington and Morris Lane for a reported motor vehicle accident on Tuesday at about 6:22 p.m., police report. Police Announce Road Closures For Nanuet Street Fair
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Clarkstown police are reporting road closures on Sunday due to the Nanuet Chamber of Commerce’s Third Annual Nanuet Street Fair, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. South Middletown Road will be closed to all traffic from the entrance of Stop & Shop down to Prospect Street, beginning at 7 a.m. There will be no parking on Main Street, and First Street will be closed between North Middletown Road and College Avenue, except for residents living on First Street.
