Garfield College Student Named Recipient of Cooke Scholarship GARFIELD, N.J. -- Theranda Jashari of Garfield, a 2016 graduate of Bergen Community College, has earned the $40,000-a-year Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Jashari is one of only 75 U.S. students to receive the award, the nation’s largest private scholarship for transfer students. Man Charged With Identity Theft In Stolen Credit Card Case In Westport WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport police have arrested a 29-year-old Hartford man on identify theft charges after he tried to use credit cards stolen in Westport at a Target in Windsor. Anthony Harris was captured on video surveillance at Target purchasing over $1,000 in merchandise through several transactions in July 2015, police said. The credit cards were stolen out of vehicles in Westport, police said. Stage 1 Water Restrictions Take Effect In Ridgewood RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Ridgewood Water has issued stage one, or "moderate," water restrictions beginning on Wednesday. The issuance calls for mandatory restriction of irrigation to Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for properties with odd-numbered addresses, and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays for properties with even-numbered addresses. Irrigation using a hand-held hose will be allowed at any time. No irrigation will be allowed on Mondays, except for the use of a hand-held hose.
