Demarest Students Organize Epilepsy Awareness Fundraiser DEMAREST, N.J. -- Sera Savas and Orcin Akman, a pair of students from Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest, organized an epilepsy fundraiser that was held from March 22 to 24. Proceeds from the event, which came from online sales of bracelets, cups, chocolate, necklaces, pens and sunglasses, were donated to Columbia University in an effort to assist in the education of parents with epileptic children. The fundraiser coincided with Purple Day, an international awareness day for epilepsy that was held on March 26.

An Orangetown police officer saw a vehicle sideswipe a taxi on Main Street in Nyack about 2:50 a.m. Saturday, then drive away, police report.
