Brookfield Officials Rescue Baby Ducks From Storm Drain BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- Members of the Brookfield police and public works departments worked together to rescue a brood of ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain Friday morning. The Brookfield police were alerted by a passing motorist who saw what she thought was an injured female duck atop a grate for a storm drain along Route 133 in front of St. Joseph’s School, according to officials. When the motorist approached, she discovered the mother duck was standing guard over her brood of 11 ducklings, all of whom had fallen through the grate, about 8 feet below, police said.
