Police Charge Man With Writing $80K In Bad Checks To Westport Jeweler WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport police arrested a 44-year-old Stamford man on charges of writing six bad checks worth over $80,000 to Lux Bond & Green in town, police said Monday. Hakan Basaran was arrested on an active warrant for seven counts of issuing bad checks after he turned himself in on Wednesday, July 13, police said. Putnam County Sheriff Warns Of Scheme Using Phones To Swipe ID's PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith is warning residents to be on guard against identity thieves who are exploiting the call-forwarding feature on victims’ phones and accessing their email accounts to conceal their thefts.
