ICE Place Detainer On Undocumented DUI Driver Charged In Lakewood Double Fatal: Feds
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on a 43-year-old man charged with killing a New Jersey mother and her 11-year-old daughter in a drunk driving, head-on crash last month, the agency said.
Raul Luna-Perez, 43, of Red Bank, entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown date and location. The agency said he had multiple prior arrests, including:
June 25, 2023, by Red Bank Police for simple domestic violence.
March 20, 2025, and April 17, 2025, for DUI, also by Red Bank Police.

USGS Confirms 2.7 Magnitude Earthquake In Bergen County
A 2.7 magnitude earthquake was confirmed in Bergen County on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 5, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The tremor struck at 12:11 p.m. EST about 2 kilometers southwest of Hillsdale, at a depth of 12.4 kilometers, according to the USGS.
According to the USGS, residents across dozens of towns in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and even as far as Massachusetts and Vermont reported feeling the quake.

A memorial has been set up outside a New Jersey animal hospital for Lauren Semanchik, a veterinarian who was fatally shot in a double murder-suicide in Washington Township over the weekend.
Semanchik, 33, was killed along with her new boyfriend, 29-year-old firefighter Tyler Webb, by her ex-boyfriend Ricardo Santos, a New Jersey State Police trooper, authorities said. Santos then turned the gun on himself in his vehicle in Johnson Park in Piscataway, officials confirmed.

A Paterson councilman was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 5, for allegedly pulling a false fire alarm inside City Hall last fall, prosecutors announced.
