Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon died Friday, July 17, at a hospice facility in Oxnard, California, after a brief bout with cancer, his representative told Variety. He was 89.
Cannon powered some of the late 1950s and early 1960s’ most memorable songs, including “Tallahassee Lassie,” “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans,” and “Palisades Park.”
