Fireworks And Fun For Dobbs Ferry Fourth Of July

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Village of Dobbs Ferry will host a Fourth of July celebration Wednesday at Waterfront Park with events and activities for local residents of all ages to enjoy.  The celebration begins at 12 p.m. with a flag-raising ceremony followed by all day music and fireworks at 9 p.m. The music is provided by Joe Rooney, of Rooney Tunes Entertainment, said Matt Arone, a department of parks and recreation employee. Rooney was also a musical guest at last year’s celebration and has a proven record of pleasing crowds, Arone said.

“Joe Rooney has been DJing for 30 years,” Arone said. “He’s been doing it since he got out of high school.”

In addition to fireworks and music, there will also be bouncy houses for children and food vendors. Although residents enjoy the activities, Arone said people are drawn to the event because families can relax. “Most of the families just come down, bring their food and drinks and have a picnic,” Arone said.

Arone said the only thing standing in the way of a big turnout is the weather. If the elements cooperate, Arone said he expects the park to be crowded with people enjoying the celebration.

The celebration will be funded by the Dobbs Ferry budget, unlike last year’s event, which was partially funded by Rivertowns Square. Although all of the event costs came from the village budget this year, the celebration will feature just as many fireworks and activities as last year, Arone said. “There were no donations this year,” Arone said. “But they just helped defer the cost, so either way the show goes on.”
